December 2nd in baseball history

Posted by Andy
Taken from the Baseball-Reference.com Bullpen, here are some of the interesting things that happened on December 2nd in baseball history
2010
  • Just last year, future Hall of Famer Ron Santo died.
  • The White Sox sign free agent OF-1B Adam Dunn from Washington to a four-year deal. Oopsies!
2002
  • Jim Thome signs with the Phillies for the first time. Let's hope his second time with the team works out a little better, although that doesn't see too likely.
1991
  • The New York Mets sign free agent outfielder Bobby Bonilla to a five-year, $29 million contract. Oopsies!
1981
1976
1971
1963
  • The MLB Rules Committee bans oversized catcher's mitts, effective in 1965. I don't understand why more rules are done like this, i.e. decided upon more than a year in advance. We could get rid of the DH if it was agreed to do it 5 years from now.
